Nanotechnology, The Coming Revolution

nanotechnology

Have you heard of Nanotechnology?

If you have a ruler, bring it and have a look at one mm. Now imagine if you divided the space between two mm into one million parts? This is the nanotechnology scale. (One nanometer equals one thousandth of a micrometer or one millionth of a millimeter.)

Nanotechnology is the science of developing materials at the atomic and molecular level in order to imbue them with special electrical and chemical properties. Nanotechnology, which deals with devices typically less than 100 nanometers in size, is expected to make a significant contribution to the fields of computer storage, semiconductors, biotechnology, manufacturing and energy.

The potential benefits are widespread. Telecommunications and Information technology could benefit in terms of faster computers and advanced data storage. Healthcare could see improvements in skin care and protection, advanced pharmaceuticals, drug delivery systems, biocompatible materials, and nerve and tissue repair. Other industries benefits include catalysts, sensors and magnetic materials and devices.

There are also some potential risks which I’ll not talk about them here, you can visit Wikipedia to read more.

Scientists expect the revolution of nanotechnology to come up at year 2025; in US the expenditure on nanotechnology researches increases by a hundred percent every year.

I would conclude with this story, in October 2004, researchers at the University of Manchester succeeded in forming a small piece of material only 1 atom thick called graphene. Robert Freitas has suggested that graphene might be used as a deposition surface for a diamondoid mechanosynthesis tool.

Nice article, nice site. I had a nice discussion with a British friend who is preparing his PHD in Physics during my last visit to UK. We have talked about many things among them is nature of gravity and composition and mass of the infra-nano articles in atoms such as Neutron, Proton and electron!!! What a puzzled universe is that!

How does -as Albert Einstein (1879-1955) said- the Creators, the Lord has created all of that? What are those super Dominant Laws?
